Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Administrative Internship in Jewish Studies – Intern will serve a professional apprenticeship with Dr. Carolyn Upson-Walker, Assistant Director, to assist with recruiting students, alumni relations, and career support for current students, as well as clerical duties, data entry, mailings, and miscellaneous projects for the Jewish Studies staff. Applicants must be in residence at Indiana University Bloomington for both the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters. Intern will work an average of 10-12 hours/week (with maximum wages of $3,000). Jewish Studies students interested in a career in communal service are encouraged to apply. Excellent career experience. Non-resident aliens need appropriate work authorization.

Eligibility:
• Minimum GPA of 3.2 who are either majoring in Jewish Studies or pursuing the Jewish Studies certificate or Jewish Studies minor in Hebrew. Students with significant financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher may also apply. Students graduating in December 2013 will be eligible for fall 2013 funding only.
• Recipients must be full-time students and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA during the funding period.
• Students may use scholarship funding toward study abroad programs that allow them to continue normal academic progress toward graduation or to pursue full-time, unpaid Jewish Studies-related internships away from IUB in the fall or spring when registered for ASCS-W 499 or ASCS-Q 398.

2. 2013 College Senior Scholarship Competition

At the beginning of the spring semester the College will begin accepting applications for the annual Senior Scholarship Competition. Current, full-time third-year students can apply for a variety of merit-based scholarships for their senior year. Award amounts and eligibility requirements vary widely for the approximately 20 named scholarships that the College awards annually through this competition. By completing one application, students are considered for all scholarships for which they qualify. Note: Some awards are restricted to academically meritorious students who have financial need.

To be eligible for this competition, applicants must:
 Be earning a degree in the College of Arts and Sciences
 Have current full-time status at IUB or in an approved overseas study program
 Be eligible to graduate in May or August 2014
 Enroll as a full-time student (or in an IU overseas study program) both semesters of 2013-2014
 High academic merit, including a minimum College GPA of 3.700

3. Indianapolis Teaching Fellows

The first deadline for applying to the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows (ITF) program is December 10, 2012. IFT is recruiting teachers to serve in several subject areas, with a particular focus in English, special education, math, science, Spanish, and French. The program begins in Summer 2013.

Teaching as a Career
ITF recruits talented recent graduates and mid-career professionals who bring experience and significant content knowledge to teaching. ITF emphasizes teaching as a long-term career change. We look for people who will stay in the classroom and effect change from within their schools. Each teaching position is considered a career with a full-time teaching salary ($33,000-39,000 plus benefits), and we expect at least a 3 year commitment from our Fellows.

Training
During the summer, Fellows participate in an intensive, six-week Fast Start Pre-Service Training (PST) to master the foundational skills necessary to improve outcomes in schools where students lag several grade-levels behind. Fast Start PST prepares people without formal education backgrounds to be immediately effective in challenging school environments, building on the deep content knowledge they already possess by preparing them to teach it. Professional development activities focus on the foundations of effective instructional delivery and classroom management – and participants are able to apply those skills right away by first practicing with other Fellows in training sessions and then by leading actual summer school classes, where they will work alongside experienced teachers to get an authentic field experience and receive real-time feedback through coaching.

Program Costs
There are no program or training costs associated with ITF – however, Fellows do complete a Master of the Arts in Teaching degree from Marian University. The cost of tuition is offset by an Americorps award of $5,500 and Fellows are responsible for the remaining $700-1000 at the end of 2 years of study.
